I drew this image on 15th Nov 2023, just over a month after Hamas launched a horrific attack on Israel. I had been searching for an image that resonated in that moment after trying to process what I was seeing in the days and weeks after. As a grower and nurturer of the land I knew that the growers and farmers in Palestine should’ve been enjoying the olive harvest at this time, a time to be together, to celebrate and share the gifts nature provides when we care for her. This drawing, inspired by Al Badawi, is thought to be one of if not the oldest Olive tree in the world. It has become a symbol of resistance for the Palestinian people.
I decided to put this drawing out into the world. Yalla Riso, a risograph printer was gifting artists 50 free prints in solidarity with Palestine. I used these prints to fundraise for MAP. People that donated to this fundraiser helped to raise over £1000.This image has now been shared through Flyers For Falastin and Pen Palestine.
